Midland International Airport will be hosting the 50th edition of Commemorative Air Force’s Airsho October 11-13, 2013. Airport surface closures will be in place during this time for the safety of aerobatic performers, tenants, and spectators. Safety is our top priority, and these airfield closures ensure safety before, during, and after airshow events. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) will also be in place during aerobatic demonstrations. The TFR will be applicable from the surface to 17500 AGL, within a five (5) nautical mile radius of MAF. Expected airport closure times are listed below. MAF will be closed to all arriving and departing traffic during the aerodrome closure periods.[i] Please note these times are tentative; the TFR and NOTAMs may be cancelled prior to the times indicated.[ii]

- Saturday October 12, 2013 – 1230L-2000L

New Parking Construction
Bids should be announced in May and the plan is to have the lot open by the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Progress is continuing, we along with the FAA are trying to iron out the details to get the airport approved for spaceflight. Keep in mind we are attempting to become the first Part 139 certificated airport with active air carrier flights to be certified as a spaceport.

Rehabilitate Taxiway Systems
Painting still needs to be completed on TWYs A, B, M, P, W. A hold short marking is missing on TWY W prohibiting us from opening RWY 16L/34R. Winds have prevented the painting contractor from actually laying out the markings.
Executive Apron Reconstruction
Phase 2 will have hot mix applied in about 2 weeks and should be completed by the next meeting.
The next major project in the executive hangar area that will be done is the reconstruction of all the ramp areas near the hangars west of the current work. It will be broken down into phases so only a few hangars are displaced at a time.
Old East Hangar
The building has been taken down and the final debris removal is being finished.
2012 Disaster Exercise (DisEx)
The disaster exercise went very well. We had all the local law enforcement and mutual aid responders show up. the local area hospitals also participated to earn mass casualty credit.

Parking Lot Addition
A feasibility study has been done on a vacant lot west of the existing parking lots with three phases. Whether or not it is covered is an additional cost consideration that needs to be discussed. Initial estimates show the cost to construct the lot will double if the lot is covered. A construction proposal will be drafted to submit to the board at the next meeting.
Southwest Airlines Flight Schedule
Starting in November 2012 Southwest will add an extra Houston and Las Vegas flight. As a result of those additions we will lose a Dallas flight. A net gain and a positive sign that Southwest believes in Midland’s passenger base. We hope to see a new 737-800 on some of those flights.
The next meeting is Tuesday, August 21, 2012 @ 9:00 a.m.
Wednesday, June 27th at 10:00AM on the third floor of the Terminal Building the FAA will be having a RSAT meeting for Midland International Airport. Please visit the FAA Runway Safety webpage for more information.
